Partnership between Pro Padel League and US Padel Association to drive the growth of padel across the USA
The Pro Padel League (PPL), the premier professional padel league in North America, has been announced as the title sponsor for the US Open Padel Championships in New York from 4th to 6th October.
The first-ever US Open Padel Championships will be at Padel Haus, the host sponsor of the championships, with matches taking place at their flagship Dumbo location in Brooklyn, New York City.
The tournament, organized by the US Padel Association (USPA), will be the fourth and final Major of the 2024 Nox USPA Circuit. Players will compete for a $15,000 prize pool, equally split between the men’s and women’s divisions.
The event will see top-tier athletes from across the world compete, setting the stage for the PPL Finals, which will bring the world’s top-ranked international professional players to New York City for the first time just a few weeks later, beginning November 20th.
In addition to the title sponsorship, the PPL has entered into a strategic partnership with the USPA to grow the sport of padel in the USA. Today, more than 30 million padel players worldwide and approximately 5,000 professionals compete in the sport. Meanwhile, padel is experiencing extreme growth in the United States, with 25 new clubs opening in the first half of 2024. This strategic partnership between PPL and USPA will focus on growing and developing the sport of padel at all levels across the USA.
The collaboration between the PPL and USPA is set to fuel the rise of padel across the nation, offering an enhanced platform for professional athletes while simultaneously driving engagement with new players at the grassroots level. As part of their ongoing commitment to growing the sport, PPL and USPA plan to expand their initiatives across the country in the coming months, laying the groundwork for the USA to develop its own top professional padel players.
Martin Sweeney, President of the US Padel Association, expressed his excitement about the partnership: “This collaboration with the PPL is a significant step forward for padel in the USA. Together, we aim to grow the sport from the grassroots level up to the professional stage. The US Open Padel Championships will be an incredible event to showcase the game, and we’re thrilled to be working with PPL and Padel Haus to make it happen.”
Michael Dorfman, Founder of the NY Atlantics, the New York-based PPL team, added: “Having the US Open Padel Championships in New York, with the support of the PPL, is a fantastic moment for the padel community here. We are excited to welcome the world to Padel Haus and show just how far the sport has come in the USA. This is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to see where this partnership will take padel in the USA.”
Santiago Gomez, Founder and CEO of Padel Haus, also shared his thoughts about the opportunity to host the Championships: “Hosting the first-ever US Open Padel Championships at Padel Haus is an incredible milestone for us. With the growth we’ve seen, we’re excited about the future and are confident that this is just the beginning of a long-term relationship with the US Open. We look forward to continuing this tradition in the years to come”.
When it begins at the iconic Padel Haus Dumbo next month, the 2024 US Open Padel Championships will be following in the footsteps of its counterparts, the US Open Tennis Championships (which began in 1881) and the US Open Golf Championships (which began in 1895) as the first tournament of its kind and will become part of a historic tradition of Open Championships in America.
