The USPA Competition Committee has updated the USPA Rules and Regulations related to seeding criteria and draw selection. From May 1st, 2025, onwards, draw selection and seeding will be conducted using the combined total of the pairs’ USPA ranking points for all USPA Circuit tournaments (USPA 2000, 1000, 500, 250, and 100’s).
Juan Arraya, USPA Board Member and Chair of the Competition Committee, stated, “Players are at the heart of everything we do at the USPA. After listening carefully to feedback from players across the country, we have made important changes to our tournament structure to better support their needs and elevate their experience. We believe that supporting the players who support the USPA Circuit is a top priority. Our commitment is stronger than ever, and we will continue working tirelessly to grow the game and raise the level of competition nationwide.”
Rules and regulations related to draw selection and seeding that are relevant and important for players to be aware of are below.
- Pairs should enter the division they would prefer to play in.
- Once draws have closed, if more teams enter a division than there are spaces (for example, if 20 teams enter a 16-team division), the USPA will check USPA ranking points and rank the teams to select them for that division. If there are pairs remaining that do not have any USPA ranking points, then the remaining pairs’ average WPR rating will be used to determine placings.
- The tournament director, with the USPA’s approval, is allowed to award two wild cards per division. If a pair believes they will not qualify for a division and would like to request a wild card, the players should contact the tournament director to request a wild card.
- Any pairs not selected for a division will be placed in the division below.
- Seedings for all divisions are awarded to the pairs with the highest combined total of USPA ranking points in each division. If the seeding is not completed and pairs remain without USPA ranking points, then the remaining pairs’ average WPR rating will be used to determine seedings.
