The FIP Promises Miami tournament benefited from amazing weather and a fantastic host location at Padel X, where founder Nalle Grinda continues to elevate junior padel in the USA through hosting FIP Promises tournaments. Highlighting the tournament’s impact, U.S. National Junior Girls Team coach Lorena Rouillon Jimenez noted that events like this serve as a great platform for discovering new talent and providing exceptional development opportunities for young athletes competing at a high level. “This was the largest FIP Promises tournament in the USA to date, and the number of players and spectators at the event highlighted the growth in junior padel. The level continues to grow each year as more and more players enter the game.”
U.S. National Junior Boys Team coach Jaume Rouillon Jimenez stated, “It is incredible to see the progress made by the USA players in the past year, not only in the number of players competing but also in those that are winning titles at this level. This is the first year of a full circuit of FIP-promised tournaments in the USA, and the players are dedicating themselves to performing at a high level.”
FIP Promises Miami wrapped up Sunday at Padel X, and the weekend’s story came from an unseeded team. Wild cards Daniil Voit and Andres Matos won Boys U18 by beating the No. 2, No. 4, and No. 3 seeds in succession, finishing with a 6-3, 7-6(3) win over Francisco Bozzola and Aiden Gibly in the final.
All-American teams won four of the six titles: Daniil Voit and Andres Matos in U18, Kiara and Valentina Bres Rohana in Girls U14, Emma Cantu and Roberta Berlanga in Girls U18, and Diego De La Cruz and Emiliano Antonio Gonzalez in Boys U16. American Ornella Beltramino added a fifth title for a U.S. player, winning Girls U16 alongside Mexico’s Mya Campa Labossière. Top seeds Eduardo Macaya of Chile and Oliver Jaeger Dick of Argentina won Boys U14.
Boys U18: Wild cards Daniil Voit and Andres Matos take the title
Voit and Matos entered the draw as wild cards and received a first-round bye. They played their first match against No. 2 seeds Santiago Castro Varela and Diego De La Cruz and dominated it. In the semifinals, they beat No. 4 seeds Mateo Herrera Sedgwick and Santiago Hernandez Ochoa, winning the match tiebreak after losing a close second set.
Bozzola and Gibly, the No. 3 seeds, reached the final by beating Axel Mendoza Colin and Santiago Emilio Bravo Yamada and then top seeds Camilo Velasco Franco and Emiliano Antonio Gonzalez. Voit and Andres Matos won the first set 6-3 and the second set in a 7-3 tiebreak. Bozzola and Gibly reached the final in both U16 and U18 and finished as runners-up.
Boys U14: Macaya and Jaeger Dick deliver as top seeds
Top seeds Eduardo Macaya and Oliver Jaeger Dick did not drop a set until the final. They opened with a win over Enrique Dominguez Millet and Patricio Peralta Machorro, then beat No. 5 seeds Diego Sonville and Marco Fuentes Davila in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, they defeated No. 8 seeds Matthew Toro and Sebastián Pissano.
In the other half, No. 6 seeds and wild cards Marco Antonio Diaz Leal Ferrer and Carlos Acosta beat No. 4 seeds Sebastian Hernandez Ochoa and Daniel Gibly 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 in the quarterfinals. They then beat brothers Joaquin and Carlos Esquinca Utrilla in the semifinals.
The final brought a San Francisco storyline back to the court. Jaeger Dick had partnered Diaz Leal Ferrer in last month’s U14 final, and in Miami he faced his former partner and Acosta across the net. After splitting sets 6-4, 4-6, Macaya and Jaeger Dick took control of the match tiebreak and won it 10-0.
Boys U16: De La Cruz and Gonzalez take the title
No. 2 seeds Diego De La Cruz and Emiliano Antonio Gonzalez won Boys U16. They beat Axel Mendoza Colin and Santiago Emilio Bravo Yamada, then Lucciano Roa Garay and Nicolas Zamora Mena.
In the semifinals, De La Cruz and Gonzalez led No. 8 seeds Daniel Gibly and Sebastian Hernandez Ochoa 7-6(5), 4-2 when their opponents retired. The final ended the same way. They led top seeds Aiden Gibly and Francisco Bozzola 6-2, 4-1 when Gibly and Bozzola retired.
Diaz Leal Ferrer and Acosta, the No. 7 seeds, also reached the semifinals after a 3-6, 6-3, 12-10 quarterfinal win over Guerrero Panach and Gomez Fanghanel. They then withdrew, and Gibly and Bozzola advanced to the final by walkover (W.O.).
Girls U14: Bres Rohana sisters win three match tiebreaks
Top seeds Kiara and Valentina Bres Rohana won Girls U14, and they did it by winning close matches. The draw was played as two round-robin groups followed by semifinals and a final. The sisters went 3-0 in Group A, including a 1-6, 6-4, 10-8 win over Alejandra Martinez Pardo Matia and Maya Chang. In the semifinals, they beat Leila Khotoveli and Serena Batkilin 6-7(3), 6-4, 10-8.
In the final, they faced No. 3 seeds Elena Altube Pintos and Jade Silvana Salgado Falomir of Mexico. The Mexican pair had not dropped a set all weekend. They swept Group B, where No. 2 seeds Daniela Garcia Veiga and Marisabel Aguerrevere went winless, and beat Martinez Pardo Matia and Chang in the semifinals. For the third time that weekend, the Bres Rohana sisters won a match tiebreak, taking the final 7-5, 5-7, 10-7.
Girls U16: Beltramino and Campa Labossière drop one game
No. 3 seeds Ornella Beltramino and Mya Campa Labossière lost one game in three matches on their way to the title. After a first-round bye, they beat Guadalupe Meznar Oses and Maria Jose Portugal. In the semifinals, they beat top seeds Emma Cantu and Roberta Berlanga.
In the other half, Ariana Sagrera and Olivia Gherardi beat No. 2 seeds Lola Rose Caceres and Katalina Correa 4-6, 6-3, 10-8 in the quarterfinals. No. 4 seeds Karine and Ana Peluso Tirloni beat the Bres Rohana sisters, then beat Sagrera and Gherardi in the semifinals.
In the final, Beltramino and Campa Labossière beat the Peluso Tirloni sisters.
Girls U18: Cantu and Berlanga win as top seeds
Top seeds Emma Cantu and Roberta Berlanga won Girls U18. They went 4-0 in the five-team round robin without dropping a set. The Peluso Tirloni sisters took the first set of the final 6-2, the only set Cantu and Berlanga lost in U18. The top seeds won the second set 6-4 and the match tiebreak 10-0, finishing the weekend as champions in one draw after their U16 semifinal loss in the other. The Peluso Tirloni sisters finished as runners-up in both U16 and U18.
