USPA Annual Activity Report 2023

Introduction

The year 2023 marked a significant year for the growth of padel in the United States, with increased participation, new facilities, and a successful series of tournaments that boosted the sport’s visibility across the nation. This report provides a summary of the activities and projects implemented by the USPA throughout 2023, focusing on the development of padel infrastructure, player engagement, and competitive events at both local, national, and international levels.

  1.  Infrastructure and Growth

    Number of Courts: As of the end of 2023, the United States has a total of 227 padel courts across various states, facilitating both recreational and competitive play.

    Number of Players:
    The USPA estimates approximately 90,000 amateur players nationwide, 1,721 registered USPA players. These players are a mix of recreational players and those actively participating in local and national tournaments.

    Number of Clubs:
    There are 39 affiliated padel clubs in the United States. These clubs play a key role in organizing training sessions, tournaments, and community engagement activities.

  2. National Tournaments and Competitions

    Tournaments Held in 2023: The USPA sanctioned and organized 46 tournaments during the year. These tournaments provided competitive opportunities for players across all skill levels and contributed to the growth of padel in the USA.

  3. International Tournaments and Competitions

    US National Teams played in the FIP Junior World Championships, Pan American Cat Libres, and Pan American Senior Championships. The USA won the Pan American Cat Libres tournament.

  4. Accessibility and Membership

    Junior Membership: In line with USPA’s mission to make padel more accessible, the organization offered junior memberships for $1 in 2023. This initiative was part of the broader effort to reduce barriers to entry for young players, allowing more juniors to participate in the sport without financial constraints.

  5. Establish of Committee Structure

    To develop wider interest and participation of USPA members and continue to promote the growth of padel in the USA a committee structure was implemented, More than 45 volunteers are currently contributing to the 4 committees: – USPA TEAM USA National Committee, USPA CLUB RELATIONSHIPS National Committee, USPA ETHICS & STANDARDS National Committee, and the USPA COMPETITION National Committee.

  6. Board of Directors Nomination and Selection Process

    With the implementation of new USPA bylaws, the USPA put in place a transparent and democratic election process for the board of directors. Applications are taken, followed by voting of the members, to select new board members, in addition, a voting process within the board for the board president has been implemented.
