CORTILES AND ARELLANO CONQUER BROOKLYN: NEW PARTNERSHIP, SAME RESULT AT THE US OPEN

Anna Cortiles and Marta Arellano won the Women’s Division 1 title at the US Open Padel Championships by Fresca Hard on Sunday, beating top seeds Luicelena Perez and Jordana Lujan in the final at Padel Haus Greenpoint.

The third seeds survived two deciding sets, then saved their best performance for the one match everyone circled before a ball was struck: Cortiles across the net from Perez, the partner with whom she ruled the USA Padel Circuit through 2024, 2025, and the start of 2026. The title is worth $9,000 to the winning team and 2,500 ranking points, and it confirms that the country’s No. 1 woman has not missed a beat since the split.

Quarterfinal: dragged to the edge

The first real test came from the draw’s most dangerous unseeded pair. Carla Rodriguez Sanchez, a US National Team member and former US Open Champion, produced the women’s upset of the season in Austin by knocking out Cortiles and Perez in the SNH Capital Open semifinals. In this US Open, playing alongside Martina Minetti, who holds a top-200 FIP World Ranking, the pair arrived with a point to prove.

The pattern looked set to repeat when Rodriguez Sanchez and Minetti took the opening set 6-4. The second set went to a tiebreak, and Cortiles and Arellano won to level the match. From there, the seeds pulled away in the decider to close out a 4-6, 7-6, 6-3 win. Cortiles got her revenge for Austin, and the new partnership got its first proof it could absorb pressure and respond.

Semifinal: stopping the hottest team in the field

If the quarterfinal was a test, Saturday’s semifinal looked like the toughest assignment in the draw. Second seeds Brittany Dubins and Camila Ramme Coellar came in as the form team in American women’s padel, winners of the last two USA Padel 2000 events, the SNH Capital Open and the Ultra Open on this same Greenpoint site, and chasing a third straight big title. They had dropped just one game across their first two matches, beating Aurelia Sara Argentieri and Alexa Silva before advancing past Dhany Quevedo and Clementina Riobueno in the quarterfinal.

For a second straight match, Cortiles and Arellano lost the first set, this time 3-6. And for a second straight match, they refused to go away. The second set again went to a tiebreak, and this time it was one-way traffic: 7-1 for the third seeds. Dubins and Ramme Coellar’s momentum was gone, and Cortiles and Arellano rolled through the third 6-2 to complete a 3-6, 7-6(1), 6-2 comeback and end the second seeds’ winning streak.

The other half: Perez and Lujan hold their nerve

In the top half, Perez and Lujan began with a first-round bye and then handled the much-anticipated unseeded threat of Valeria Montaño and Renata Martinez, both inside the USA Padel top 10, winning 6-3, 6-0. Montaño and Martinez had opened with a win over Ena Indjin and Olivia Çiftçi.

Their semifinal against fourth seeds Marta Morga Alonso and Ornella Beltramino, who had beaten Erika Castillo and Crystal Leung and Lynn Burus and Kana Daniel, started badly. Morga Alonso and Beltramino took the first set 6-2, but the top seeds recovered to win 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 and book the final that the draw had been promising since it was released.

The final: old partners, new sides of the net

Together, Cortiles and Perez won the first three big events of 2026: the Urban Padel 1000, the RGV 1000 and the Las Vegas 2000. Since going their separate ways in the summer, both had come close without lifting a major trophy; Sunday settled the question.

After two matches spent chasing deficits, Cortiles and Arellano played the final from in front. They took the first set and kept the pressure on through the second, closing out a victory that was the most lopsided scoreline of their weekend. The team that had needed tiebreaks to survive on Friday and Saturday never let the final get close.

The reign continues

The US Open crown adds a fourth major title to Cortiles’ 2026, on top of the two 1000s and the 2000 she won with Perez, and strengthens her hold on the No. 1 ranking. More telling than the numbers was the route. Twice in two days, Cortiles and Arellano dropped the first set against teams with momentum, twice they won the second-set tiebreak, and twice they ran away with the decider. A new partnership rarely shows that kind of resilience this early.
