DIAZ AND SÁNCHEZ SERRANO SEAL US OPEN CROWN, CONFIRMING THEIR GRIP ON THE CIRCUIT

The two most consistent pairs of the 2026 season met in the Men’s Division 1 final of the US Open Padel Championships by Fresca Hard, and top seeds Daniel Diaz and Jose David Sánchez Serrano walked away with the title.

Diaz and Sánchez Serrano beat No. 2 seeds Nico Agritelley and Sergio Conde 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 on Sunday, October 4, closing out three days of play at Padel Haus. The win, at the biggest event on the USA Padel calendar and with a record $40,000 Division 1 prize pool on the line, underlined what the season has suggested for months: this is the pair to beat.

The champions’ road

Diaz and Sánchez Serrano did not drop a set until the final. They opened with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Felipe Osses-Konig and Alvaro Pecos, then handled Cayetano Rocafort and Jose Luis González Rodríguez.

The quarter-final against No. 8 seeds Miguel Briega Ramos and Agustín Marcial was a clinic. The real test came in the semi-final against wildcards Matias Segura and Jacobo Blanco de Miguel, seeded sixth.

Segura and Blanco de Miguel had just come through a three-set battle with No. 4 seeds Baltazar Parra Heck and Juampi Andrada, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6(4). They pushed the top seeds to a first-set tiebreak before Diaz and Sánchez Serrano won 7-6(5), 6-4.

Agritelley and Conde: rising, and not far off

If the final belonged to the champions, the week confirmed Nico Agritelley and Sergio Conde as the circuit’s other constant. Their road to Sunday was arguably the most dominant in the draw: eight straight sets, never conceding more than four games in any of them.

They beat Santiago Arze and Guilherme da Cunha, then Andrei Morin-Kougoucheff and Juan Lopez Isasi. Guillermo Jimenez Cagigas and Gerard Arnaldos Serrano fell 6-2, 6-4 in the quarter-finals, and Juan Manuel Vazquez and Pedro Alonso Martínez in the semis.

The pair arrived in Brooklyn in form, having won the USPA 1000 Cooley Open in San Diego in June. However, the big one will have to wait, but on this evidence, not for long.

New faces, fallen seeds

While the top two favorites cruised into the final as expected, the rest of the draw delivered non-stop drama and unpredictable upsets. Five of the eight seeded pairs were gone before the semi-finals, and several newcomers to the event made noise.

Juan Manuel Vazquez and Pedro Alonso Martínez were the comeback story. Alonso has not played on the circuit at all this year, and Juan Manuel has played sparingly. They opened 6-0, 6-2 against Ben Clayton and Niklas Schmutz, advanced past No. 3 seeds Vinny Di Francesco and Ivo Andenmatten, then came from a set down to beat Daniel Fernandez and Nicolas Clerc 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 for a semi-final spot.

Fernandez and Clerc had already knocked out No. 5 seeds Luis Estrada and Maxime Mora in the first round. In the bottom half, Jimenez Cagigas and Arnaldos Serrano dispatched No. 7 seeds Raul Ruiz and Jose De Armas to reach the last eight.

A final worthy of the billing

The opening set was tight, as expected between two pairs who know each other’s games well. Diaz and Sánchez Serrano edged it 7-5.

Agritelley and Conde answered in kind. They took the second set by the same 7-5 margin to force a decider.

That was where experience told. The top seeds found another gear in the third and closed it out 6-2 to lift the US Open trophy.
