USA Padel is now accepting applications from those interested in joining the US Cat Libres National Team, which will compete in the Pan American Open Categories taking place on October 21-24, 2026, in Asunción, Paraguay.
Who can apply
Cat Libres (short for the Categorias Libres) is an amateur team, open to non-professional players. Athletes compete in pairs across categories 2 – 6, with each pair earning points toward the USA’s overall total at the event. USA Padel can send more than one pair per category and will fill as many categories as the coaching staff deems appropriate for this cycle.
The category system used is derived from the Argentine tournament system and does not match up perfectly with the USA Padel Circuit divisions 1, 2, 3, and 4. However, this is a great opportunity for USA citizens who play competitively and wish to travel internationally to apply to represent the USA.
Historically, the tournament has been very enjoyable for players attending, and the USA has had a strong history at it. The USA team was victorious in Cancun in 2023, and multiple pairs have won their categories over the past few years.
The coaches leading the team are Jon Guerra (Los Angeles), Celeste Paz (San Diego), and Fran Plaza (Nashville)

How selections work
Player selections will be made by the National Team Coaches, using USA Padel’s National Team Selection Criteria. Applicants should fill out the application form with as much detail as possible, since the coaches rely on that information to build the roster.
What’s covered, and what isn’t
For this tournament, USA Padel will provide coaches, a team delegate, team uniforms, and health insurance for injuries or illness sustained abroad. Players are responsible for any additional nights beyond the covered dates, their own travel to and from Paraguay, food, and miscellaneous trip expenses. There is also a registration fee of $200-$300, which includes the player’s hotel during the tournament.
