THE GLOBAL RISE OF PADEL: COURTS, COMPETITIONS, FEDERATIONS, AND THE EXPANDING INDUSTRY ECOSYSTEM

The padel revolution is firmly established, with the number of courts growing year after year and showing no signs of slowing down worldwide.

At the core of this global expansion, court manufacturers are driving innovation and the professionalization of court infrastructure. In parallel, indoor and outdoor club development through new projects, construction, and franchising models is rapidly scaling the global network that underpins the sport’s growth.

On the competitive front, professional circuits such as the Pro Padel League and its PPL II format, focused on boosting professional visibility, commercial growth, and global appeal, together with the United States Padel Association (USPA), are helping to structure and professionalize padel internationally. The USPA plays a central role in the United States by organizing competitions, defining rules and standards, and promoting the sport, contributing to its global consolidation.

In parallel, industry-focused events are becoming essential pillars of the ecosystem, emerging as key meeting points for manufacturers, clubs, investors,  and federations. These exhibitions now play a strategic role in connecting and accelerating the entire industry.

A leading example is the Padel World Summit, now in its third edition and established as the most important international exhibition fully dedicated to padel. Held in Barcelona, it brings together the industry’s key players and serves as a global hub for innovation and business development. Within this context, AFP Courts will once again have a prominent presence showcasing its latest innovations.

This momentum is also clearly visible in the United States, where padel is expanding rapidly in major metropolitan areas such as New York and Los Angeles, as well as in high-growth regions like Texas and Florida. The sport’s development is strongly fueled by Latin and initial American influence, favorable climate conditions, and a growing community of players, coaches, and operators.

This expansion is reflected in the rise of events such as RacquetX, now in its third consecutive edition with steadily increasing attendance. The 2026 edition gathered 125 exhibitors, a growth of more than 20% year-on-year, positioning padel as one of the standout disciplines, surpassing even more established sports such as pickleball in terms of exhibition presence.

In parallel, the Pro Padel League (PPL), now in its fourth season, has become a global competition featuring some of the world’s top players. AFP Courts plays a key role as an official court partner, supplying the adidas PPL High Competition court. This partnership reinforces both the league’s credibility and the AFP Courts’  reputation for delivering elite-level performance infrastructure.

A crucial driver of this expansion is the industry’s commitment to quality and safety.  AFP Courts has been a pioneer in developing wind-compliant court systems. Under its adidas and redsport brands, it offers three outdoor models designed in accordance with US regulations and ASCE SEI exposure standards, ensuring durability, safety, and performance in all conditions.

In addition, the American Sports Builders Association (ASBA), together with the  USPA and industry experts, has developed the first official padel court installation and maintenance manual. This framework establishes standards for design, construction, lighting, and maintenance, while addressing key factors such as wind exposure, soil conditions, and court placement, ensuring consistent quality across the United States.

Overall, padel’s growth reflects a single, powerful trend: a global revolution driven not only by sporting expansion but also by a rapidly evolving ecosystem of industry players, competitions, and international exhibitions that are structuring, professionalizing, and accelerating its worldwide development.
